vanakkam-chennai-review at dailomo.comVanakkam Chennai is a new movie released for this extended weekend in Tamil cinema, which stars actors Shiva and Priya Anand. More importantly, Vanakkam Chennai marks the debut of director Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, who is the wife actor and producer Udhayanidhi Stalin. Vanakkam Chennai is a romantic comedy, which has a predictable triangular love story but has some enjoyable moments too. The recent array of movies with the rom-com genre in Tamil cinema industry has caught up with the Tamil cinema audiences and Vanakkam Chennai might exploit this current trend.

Here is the story of Vanakkam Chennai. Ajay (Shiva) is a small town boy and circumstances allow him to live with Anjali (Priya Anand), who is a Tamil girl based in London. Living together in the same house Ajay and Anjali develop a room for a fresh and light romance between themselves, but things become questionable when Anjali’s fiancée Deepak enters into the scene from nowhere. What happens next and whether Ajay and Anjali are able to join hands with each other makes up the rest of the story.

vanakkam-chennai-review at dailomo.comDirector Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi has tried to offer a colorful and light hearted rom-com with some comic moments all throughout the runtime. She has also tried to show light on the emotions of her lead characters without spoiling the feel good factor of the movie.

The first half of the movie has some feel good moments, which keeps the audiences engaged without worrying where the proceedings might head. The second half of Vanakkam Chennai has Santhanam taking care of laughter evoking moments, but does not continue to offer the feel good factor that the first half gave. There are some emotional scenes in the second half, which the lead actors have used to exhibit their acting potential.

In a rom-com we all know what is going to be offered at the end. The success of a rom-com depends on how the director gets us to the already known result. Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi only partially succeeds in this attempt called Vanakkam Chennai, which is easily predictable although enjoyable!

Plus Santhanam, Priya Anand
Minus Aniruth Mokkai Music, Kiruthika old type storytelling, Mirchy Shiva same stereotype acting
Verdict Don’t waste your money. Better to take rest by simply sleep for three hours. Anyway this movie will screen Sun TV or Vijay TV after one or two months time
