Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham is the Tamil version of the flick which has been released in several other languages under different names such as Son of Sardar in Hindi, Maryadai Ramanna in Telugu and Maryade Ramanna in Kannada, and has been a blockbuster in all the languages. The film is also the acting debut of Santhanam, the popular comedian, as a hero. The movie has been directed by Srinath, and the main characters have been played by Santhanam and Ashna Zaveri.
This comedy-action movie starts with an old family quarrel which ends with the killing of Shakti’s (Santhanam) father and the brother of Singarayar. While Shakti’s mother leaves the village with her son, fearing for his life, Singarayar stays back with his two sons to take revenge. The movie shows Shakti, to come back to the village 27 years later to sell his paternal property, as he was going through rough times in the town.
On the way of his journey he meets with Vaanathi (Ashna Zaveri), the daughter of Singarayar, and became friends. Subsequently Shakti reaches to Singarayar’s home to ask him for selling the lands of Shakti’s father, and thus unknowingly he steps into the rival’s den. The next part of the movie shows Shakti making several excuses to not to leave the house, as that comes as the only way for him to stay alive.
Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham is a fast paced entertainer which lingers on the same topic for more than half of the movie. Most of the critics were of the opinion that the filmmaker was clueless about the art of storytelling, which made even such an engrossing flick, mere a pale one. Though the movie is a frame –to-frame remake of its superhit Telugu version, but somehow the momentum of the scenes are missing and finally the movie makes nothing more than a time pass entertainer.
