Poda Podi has been on the floors for a long time, but has survived to bring freshness on its content, thanks to the sleazy direction of debutant director Vignesh Sivan. This Simbu’s latest flick has released with the big flick Thuppakki for this Diwali, which is also the debut flick for actress Varalaxmi, the daughter of actor Sarathkumar. First, an appreciation goes to the movie makers who have daringly released Poda Podi with Thuppakki, which is a highly expected flick for the festival. In addition, this flick was also an important flick for Simbu after his mass entertainer Osthi flunked at the box office. Poda Podi is not disappointing, but is not too good too!
Poda Podi is a musical and a romantic outing circling around the characters Arjun (Simbu) and Nisha (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar). It tells their tale of getting with each other, their similarities, their differences. The plot traces their love life, which includes how they fall in love with each other, their marriage, and the rising differences between them and how they overcome them successfully. The plot also gives good room for the music, which adds lightness and peppiness to it.
In romantic movies, the characters play an important role rather than the plot. Very successful romantic flicks have adapted this formula and the debutant director Vignesh Sivan has not failed to learn this formula. It is the reason why Poda Podi’s lead characters Arjun and Nisha make an impact in the audiences’ minds.
The director has presented each scene with all the elements that do justice to the genre. The narration, the presentation of roles onscreen and the background music make sure the movie is all about youthfulness and romance. However, the good job has not been till the end, which makes second half a mess. The narration finds it difficult to travel in one path.
Simbu has done a matured portrayal, which shows his development as an actor. However, it is Varalaxmi Sarathkumar who scores incredibly well. She looks very perfect to the character, and her body language helps it well. Her expressions, her dance movement and her very presence help the movie in many ways. She has also dubbed in her own voice and makes an impressive dialogue delivery unlike the other actresses.
The music of Poda Podi has already been a hit and the visuals make it simply better. Toting up, Poda Podi is a good time pass movie for the youth with Varalaxmi making an impressive debut in the industry!
