Onayum Aattukuttiyum is one of the latest movies to hit the screens in Tamil cinema this weekend along with the highly promoted movie Raja Rani. Onayum Aattukuttiyum does not enjoy much promotion just like Raja Rani, as the director Mysskin is a strong believer that promotions are not necessary to make a movie a hit one. His offbeat movies have earned him a very good name, although his last outing Mugamoodi flunked at the box office. However, Mysskin is back with a bang wit Onayum Aaattukuttiyum, which can provide a relief for sensible movie watchers who hate the brainless comedies that succeed at the box office.
Onayum Aattukuttiyum is a story that takes place in one night. A stranger is get shot in the wee hours on a road. Chandran (Sri), a medical student, finds him with bullets in his body but still alive. He takes him to all the nearby hospitals but no hospital admits him for treatment. Circumstances force him to meet the man who attempted to murder the one whom he is trying to save. What happens next?
Mysskin’s narration and treatment of the screenplay highlights the director’s unique way of storytelling marked by long shots without dialogues. The characters have been well written by the director and the important scenes have been shot excellently well with all the momentum required for the thriller without missing the Mysskin’s unique factors.
The biggest plus of Onayum Aattukuttiyum is the background score of maestro Ilayaraja. The movie has no songs but Ilayaraja’s background score finds an important place in the narration. His scores increase the momentum and move the audiences more towards the proceedings. The background score by the maestro seems to be as important as the lead characters in this movie.
Overall, Onayum Aattukuttiyum is a well shot and neatly executed gripping thriller, which cannot be missed, at least for Ilayaraja’s background score!
