Love stories are the same everywhere. The initial rushes and gushes to impress the guy or girl, the first meet experiences and so on. And, when they hook up, the feel good factor comes in and days move on. Later, the love or hate game begins and the intense arguments follow. Problems crop up and relationships get complex. However, intense the problem is, true love always keeps the pair intact and they live happily forever. A good director never disturbs this universal order of love, but always comes up with an engrossing tale, although the storyline is same. It is this approach that adds freshness to the love stories and Gautham Vasudev Menon has proved again that he is a good writer and director with his latest Neethane En Ponvasantham.
Neethane En Ponvasantham is a tale of two people, Varun (Jiiva) and Nithya (Samantha) and the love they have for each other. The movie traces their relationship right from their pure childhood days to the much matured independent days of mid 20s. Time and again how they fall in love with each other and what are the hindrances they face in their lives and how it affects their lives is what is told in Neethane En Ponvasantham.
Gautham Vasudev Menon never sticks to the linear narration and Neethane En Ponvasantham is partly linear and partly non linear. Irrespective of the style, his story telling ability has once again helped him in keeping the audiences stick to the characters and events of the movie. The first half of the movie moves very quickly as the scenes and sequences always draw the audiences’ attention.
The second half of the movie starts with a shoddy note, which does not add more to the intensity that the first half had induced in the minds of audiences. However, the movie gets back the intensity and it lasts till the climax.
Jiiva and Samantha have pulled off stunning performances in their roles as Varun and Nithya and they are the backbone of this engrossing love tale. Ilayaraja’s music increases the tempo of the director’s narration and keeps the audiences entertained with his mesmerizing songs.
Overall, Neethane En Ponvasantham is an engrossing and intense urban romance, which should not be missed!
