Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam, the ninety five crore mega budget movie, got into trouble after Tamil Nadu government banned the movie as a result of protest from many Muslim outfits in the state. The issue not only became a problem for Tamil cinema industry, but also became a National issue, which saw reactions from many political figures and cinema icons and freedom activists. Fortunately, after high tension and desperation, Vishwaroopam is releasing on February 7. However, now the buck has moved to the movie Kadal, which hit the theatres on February 1.
Kadal was directed by the ace director Mani Ratnam, who is known for handling sensitive issues in his movies brilliantly. Kadal does not involve any of the sensitive issues of the society and is purely based on the lives of characters living in a Christian village in southern Tamil Nadu. The movie also takes a look on the fight between the good and evil through two important characters in the movie played by Aravind Samy and Arjun. Especially, Arjun’s character is based on Satan, the evil doer.
Now, it seems as if the scenes portraying the never ceasing conflict between the good and evil in the movie Kadal is bothering or hurting the sentiments of the Christians in Tamil Nadu. Some Christian outfits have raised concerns over certain scenes in the movie. Indian Christian Democratic Party has already submitted a memorandum to the police officers regarding certain scenes in Kadal. The party has also said that their protest would intensify if no action is taken against the controversial scenes in Kadal.
Until now, there have not been any reactions to objections from the filmmakers’ side. The Christian outfit has also blamed the Censor Board for approving such scenes that are featured in Kadal! It seems the party wants to chop down seven scenes from the movie. Cinema followers have to wait and see whether Kadal too is going to suffer just like Vishwaroopam did!
