In the last ten days, the yet to be released movie Vishwaroopam has made so much news. We are not just talking about the promotional activities being carried out for the movie, but also the issues of release surrounding the latest flick from the brain of Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Hassan. Many issues regarding the release of the movie floated in the media, as many Tamil cinema distributors does not want to release the movie, as Kamal Hassan has also decided to release the movie in Direct To Home Satellite TV services a day before the theatrical release.
First round of talks went on between the Ulaga Nayagan and the doubtful Tamil cinema distributors, but the talk ended up as a failure for Kamal Hassan. Many distributors in Tamil Nadu also want to ban the movie releasing in Tamil Nadu, if Kamal Hassan sticks with his innovative idea of releasing the movie in Airtel DTH.
For your information, according to the decisions, Vishwaroopam will be available in DTH a day before the theatrical release and onecan watch the movie at home paying 100 rupees for one time watch. Movie distributors are skeptical with this idea, as they feel that this move would affect their business and more filmmakers might follow this suit. However, Kamal Hassan seems to be staying defiant on his idea of releasing the flick in DTH, which could get him a whooping 50 crore rupees from the DTH service providers!
The megaphone wielded by the actor, producer and director, Kamal Hassan has a budget of 95 crores and is also releasing in Hindi and English on January 11 along with the Tamil version. In a recent press meet in Delhi, Kamal Hassan said that he is expecting at least a collection of 150 crores of rupees for Vishwaroopam, as he feels only that would do justice to the money invested. He also added that only the content decides the pricing and that is why one has to pay 1000 rupees for a one time watch through DTH!
We wish Kamal Hassan finds his dream come true!
