Kallathuppakki was in news not because of its promotions, but because of the title row. The filmmakers of Kallathuppakki were in fight against the Vijay starrer and Deepavali release movie Thuppakki. Both the parties wanted to have one specific title, but the A R Murugadoss team won the battle in an out of the court agreement. However, the title row brought a lot of free publicity for the otherwise small budget and poorly promoted movie. However, the filmmakers have failed to cash in on the free publicity as the content has nothing to entertain or make the audiences think!
Kallathuppakki is a film about five school students and twist of events that happen in their otherwise ordinary lives. Five students belonging to a Sivakasi school are not in good terms with their physical director (Sampathram). The physical director punishes the five students during a school incident and the five students desperately want to take revenge on their master. A trip to Chennai is arranged by the school and the five students escape from their group to pull his master down. After a series of events, they end up finding an unlicensed gun, which is being searched by a local goon. Will they get back to safety?
With such an interesting plot and a blessing in disguise kind of free publicity, the movie could have been an instant hit, but the director of the movie, Logiyaas, simply spoils his own broth. The screenplay has many flaws that can even disappoint movie watchers who simply want to be entertained without searching for logic. The pace is also a problem as the main plot is arrived quite some time after the movie starts. The second half picks pace but again finds no support from the characterization and editing and ends up as a well spoiled content.
Kallathuppakki, despite having a good plot, fires disappointment and nothing else!
