Alex Pandian is the latest flick starring actors Karthi, Anushka and Santhanam. The movie has been directed by director Suraaj, who has earlier directed movies like Padikathavan and Maapillai. Alex Pandian is promoted as an action entertainer along with comical dialogues and one liner with the help of Santhanam. The mix of action and comedy has become the essence of modern day commercial cinema down the south, but the filmmakers making such movies fail to understand the fact that not every flick clicks with the audiences. Alex Pandian would be a great example, why utter commercialism could be a disastrous failure.
Here is the plot of Alex Pandian. A rich business minded doctor GKM (Suman) wants to import antibiotics from a NRI businessman named Allwyn Martin (Milind Soman). However, his move turns into a failure as the chief minister (Visu) does not approve the import. Hence, GKM seeks the help of Alex Pandian (Karthi), a local criminal, to kidnap the daughter (Anushka) of chief minister. Alex Pandian, who does anything for money, does what GKM asks him to do. Later, he finds out that he is working for a bad cause and hence jumps to the side of dharma and turns into a one man army to take on the wrong doers.
Suraaj’s directorial efforts were questioned when his previous flick Maapillai released. The movie became a failure and the director does not seem to have learned his lessons. Alex Pandian seems to be a failure in every department. The introduction scene of the lead role itself lacks logic puts the audiences in the off mode.
While the first half has some help from Santhanam, the fellow comedian is unable to lift the movie from the bottom because of poor paced screenplay and underwritten characters. The second half is a damp squib that tests the patience of all kinds of audiences. The music and cinematography too have not come alive, which further disappoints the audiences.
Overall, Alex Pandian is a waste of time and money, if you really care for reasonable spending of resources.
